The food drive will begin after students get back from Thanksgiving break. It will start on Nov. 27 this year and will finish in December.

The Liberty City Ladies Club works with area churches and identifies 15 or so families that are in need.  After teachers collect the canned food, the Boy Scouts pick it up and sort it and make up several boxes of food to last a few months for each family.

The Ladies Club adds milk, eggs, a ham or turkey and other items. Plus they get a wish list from the kids and provide presents to go with the food. On a Saturday before Christmas, each family has a designated time to pick up their gifts and food. Any extra food goes to the local food pantry.

“We’ve done this with the Ladies Club and school and scouts for about 20 years,” student council sponsor Kassi Madden said. “Last year there were over a dozen bicycles plus all the other toys and gifts and food.”
