Once Upon a Deadpool presented as a parody of Deadpool 2

Once Upon a Deadpool, a fun, family-friendly spin on the not-so-family-friendly Deadpool 2 – which is rated R – works surprisingly well and maintains the story presented by Deadpool 2.

The movie begins as a parody of the classic, A Princess Bride. Fred Savage, the cute little boy who has a story read to him by his grandfather, is kidnapped and duct taped to a bed and read a story by our masked hero Deadpool, despite Savage being in his 40s. With Fred Savage’s snarky comments and arguments with Ryan Reynolds, AKA Deadpool, what was originally a regular hero movie is converted into a series of fourth wall breaks addressing the audience in an overall very strange comedy.

It turns into an even better movie with stellar actors such as Josh Brolin as Cable, a time-traveling cyborg, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Deadpool’s girlfriend, Julian Dennison as Firefist, a troubled young hero, and Zazie Beetz as Domino, a very lucky hero.

All in all, Once Upon a Deadpool is a pretty decent movie and should be on student lists to watch. 3.5 stars out of 5.
