The video game known as Undertale, released in September 2015, was created by Toby Fox, an Indie video game designer. The game is available on PC, PS4 and Switch. The story follows the non-gendered character of Frisk who is the protagonist.

Players of the game must get out of the Underground through multiple choices the person playing the game must make. The game holds three different routes a person can take: neutral, pacifist, or genocide. Depending on the route is how the game reacts because an element of the game is that the player’s choices matter. There are even a few NPCs (Non-Playable Characters) that remember what you did in past runs of the game.

Undertale presses a do-not-kill moral because the more a player kills, the harder it becomes, making boss battles nearly impossible to beat. In a pacifist run, the game also forces the player to fight when the rest of the run won’t allow the player to fight.

Undertale, which has received many awards and accolades in its short time, is often revered as one of the greatest role-play games (RPGs) ever to be released. Game reviewers often praise the game writing and musical score of the game.

The game brings a new meaning to LV and EXP. The abbreviation LV is most commonly used for Level, but in Undertale it stands for LOVE or Level Of Violence. As for EXP which typically stands for Experience Points, stands for Execution Points in Undertale.

In Undertale the ability of SAVE and RESET are referred to as the player’s DETERMINATION, which is something that only a Human SOUL can have since monster bodies cannot hold determination.

Besides the game play mechanics, the game is flooded with puns and jokes. NPCs names are sometimes puns, even to the point that a few are named after the fonts of how they talk in their text boxes.

The game has a brilliant story line that makes the player’s choices matter. If he or she does or doesn’t do some things, the game can change completely. The game contains a program called FUN LEVEL which makes the game have a random number between one and a hundred. Depending on the fun level, different things happen in a game, meaning each run will never be the same.

Overall, Undertale is a game that I don’t mind playing over and over. Most games do not have this which makes Undertale a one-of-a-kind experience. If people haven’t played it yet, they should give it a try. They won’t be disappointed.
