The varsity volleyball team went face to face against the East Texas Chargers Oct. 12 at the Sabine High School gym. After battling it out in four matches, the Lady Cardinals came up short after winning the first match 25-22 and losing the following 3 matches 25-27, 26-28 and 19-25.
“We played really good,” freshman Caitlyn Stewart said. “The attitude of the team really affects our game.”
Stewart, the main setter for the Cards, completed 46 assists, senior Maddie Furrh got 17 kills and 45 outside attacks and sophomore Cale Brown had 16 kills and 32 middle attacks.
Junior Samaria Austin, one of the two managers for the Lady Cards, said senior Ally Gresham and sophomore Ella Roberts, “played their hearts out.” Gresham and Roberts had a total of 49 digs.
“Gresham and Roberts don’t get the credit they deserve,” Austin said. “Without them digging the attacks, it wouldn’t be a very long game.”
The Cardinals have a 24-13 record overall and are 3rd place in district.
