The football team took on the White Oak Roughnecks Oct. 15.  After a close first half with a score of 21-14, the Cardinals pulled through with a win 42-14.

“I feel the team did quite well, as the score indicated,” athletic director and head coach Rex Sharp said. “It is always nice beating White Oak.”

The team is currently 4-0 in district and has made the playoffs in the seven team district.

“The team has really come out of their comfort zone and is now willing to put in the work to be a successful team,” coach Jimmy Morton said. “We still have things to work on, simple mistakes, but we’re ready for Friday the 29th when we take on the Gladewater Bears.”

During the game, senior quarterback Jace Burns threw a pass to junior Cooper McNatt during the first half, giving him a run to the end zone. This was McNatt’s first touchdown of the game.

“When Jace threw the ball, I knew I had to go,” McNatt said. “I knew I had to do this for my team and show the coaches what I was capable of.”

McNatt ran for 51 yards, and Burns completed 225 yards of passing before the night was over.

“We came out with our heads held high and our chests out knowing we were going to leave with a win,” junior Cayden Fortson said.

On Oct. 29, the Cardinals will take on the Gladewater Bears at Gladewater stadium. Both football teams will battle to keep their undefeated district titles.
