Girls basketball teams open season with wins; Football team plays first round of playoffs

The JV and varsity girls basketball teams played Arp Nov. 8, winning their first game of the season. Meanwhile, the varsity football team played Mineola Nov. 12. in the first round of the playoffs.
“It felt really good for the first game of the season to start off with a dub, which is what we really wanted,” varsity player and junior Claudia Simmons said. “We left everything out on the court, and I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.”
The girls varsity basketball team won 42-27, and the JV team won 22-14. Sophomore JV player Loren Colquitt said that the JV team could improve on “rebounding and talking.”
“Coach [Sara] Cantrell says a ‘quiet gym is a losing gym,’” Colquitt said.
The football team ended their season with a 7-4 overall record, and a 40-33 loss against Mineola in the first round of playoffs.
“It’s kind of sad thinking that I’m never gonna play football again and never be able to put the pads back on, but it was good while it lasted,” senior football player Kile Stripland said. “We all had fun during the season, and we all know that we can count on each other for anything. We’re all family now.”
